Lounge Body and Universe Party are maxxed out in anticipation for this Saturday (08.11.12) as Fairfield IA’s very own, Phil Rabalais will take to Red Rock Tavern in his hometown for four hours of crazed dance enjoyment.

Phil has been seen on the scene since 2008, when him and his brother Dom (Little Ruckus) started Porno Galactica.  They made dance beats and threw parties, released an album and opened for “tuns o band,” as Phil put it… and probably tuns of folks threw down with them as they quickly entered the scene playing with pioneers like Dan Deacon, and widely respected RJD2 and Tilly and the Wall.

After two years on the road, Phil and his lil bro changed their game to “a little more punk, wall of sound, yell dance band.”  The brothers also changed the name of their group to Utopia Park, in remembrance of the trailer park they grew up in.  “We were playing lots of punk basements and houses and shit, and we found ourselves wanting to play that type of music mixxed (sic) with our style,” Phil said, and thus a completely new project was born.

That project went on to open for Matt and Kim and Dan Deacon a few more times, during the course of four national tours.  And would eventually spur a number of new projects that are easily recognizable around the city of fairfield:  Animal was an introverted, experimental band with Darla Murphy that released an album called Diatoms. That project will tour in September.  The ultra cool Trouble Lights with Adrien Daller is a project currently in the works.  In September, Phil is releasing an album through Maximum Ames Records.  He is stoked on the fact that will be on vinyl.  All music junkies secretly wish they were releasing an album on vinyl, including me like a million times.  and not secretly.

I will do a live interview with Phil Wednesday (07.08.12) on KRUU FM (www.kruufm.com) from 5-6, and hopefully get him for a secret teaser set tonight at the Red Rock for Universe Party.

Phil said, and ima hold him to it, “I can’t wait to fuck up the Red Rock.” Thats Saturday though, and who knows what will happen.  I’m not gonna blog to tell you about it tho.
